Solar Gard vs 3M Window Film — 2026 Buyer’s Guide
Choosing between Solar Gard and 3M window film requires matching the film to the glass, the project goals, and the installation conditions. The Window Place USA sells Solar Gard products; we do not sell 3M products. For that reason, this guide uses current Solar Gard documentation for Solar Gard specifications and avoids unsupported competitor performance or price claims.
How to Compare Window Film
Compare products using visible light transmittance (VLT), total solar energy rejected (TSER), solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC), reflectance, film construction, glass compatibility, and the applicable warranty. Published values depend on the glass and testing conditions, so use like-for-like test data and confirm compatibility before purchase.
Verified Solar Gard Solar-Control Specifications
Solar Gard reports the following values for films applied to 1/4-inch (6 mm) clear glass using NFRC methodology and LBNL Window software:
| Solar Gard product | VLT | TSER | SHGC |
|---|---|---|---|
| TrueVue 15 | 12% | 77% | 0.23 |
| TrueVue 30 | 31% | 61% | 0.39 |
| TrueVue 40 | 39% | 52% | 0.48 |
| PureVue 70 | 72% | 39% | 0.61 |
TrueVue offers dual-reflective solar-control performance. PureVue is a ceramic, non-metallic option designed for high visible-light transmission and signal-friendly performance. For current specifications and testing conditions, refer to Solar Gard’s official product documentation or contact us for a product comparison specific to your project.
Comparing Solar Gard With 3M
3M product names such as Night Vision, Prestige, Safety & Security, Ultra 800, and Thinsulate may appear in buyer searches, but we do not publish specific 3M performance, warranty, compliance, availability, or price figures on this page. Those details can change and must be confirmed from current 3M documentation and the seller or installer quoting the project.
For an accurate comparison, request current manufacturer documentation for each exact film and compare the same glass type, test method, visible-light level, installation surface, and warranty conditions. Do not assume two products are equivalent based only on a model name or a single performance number.
Security Film Guidance
Security-film performance depends on the complete glazing system, including the film, glass, frame, attachment system, installation, and applicable test standard. Solar Gard Armorcoat offers safety and security film options. For current specifications, tested assemblies, and project requirements, refer to Solar Gard’s official documentation or contact us for product-specific guidance. Opening or cutting rolls can affect manufacturer warranties and security certifications; preserve factory-sealed rolls when those requirements apply.
Warranty Requirements
Solar Gard TrueVue and PureVue are covered by a Limited Lifetime residential warranty and a 12-year commercial warranty when the applicable warranty conditions are met. Warranty eligibility requires purchase through an authorized distributor and installation by an authorized dealer. Product selection, glass compatibility, installation, documentation, and claim procedures remain subject to the current written Solar Gard warranty.
Buying Guidance
- Confirm the exact film model and current manufacturer specification sheet.
- Match published performance data to the same glass and testing conditions.
- Confirm film-to-glass compatibility before ordering or installation.
- Request current pricing for the exact roll size rather than relying on generalized per-square-foot comparisons.
- Confirm warranty eligibility and installer requirements in writing.
- For security projects, confirm the complete tested glazing system and required documentation.
